CORPS CRIANTS ("Screaming Bodies") is a ten-minute performance piece that brings together two performers, a third motionless human body used as a resonating instrument, a four-channel fixed electronic soundtrack, a custom triggering system controlled by contact microphones, and a programmed DMX lighting design.

At its core, the piece explores the scream — a raw, instinctive expression often regarded as excessive or negative. But what if we reconsidered the scream not as a breakdown of language, but as a deeper form of communication? A primal revolt. A visceral return to our animality. A place words cannot reach.

More than 300 types of screams were analyzed during the creative process, categorized and used as material for the development of a hybrid object: the SCREAMBOX — half musical instrument, half social tool. Designed to channel extreme emotions, the SCREAMBOX imagines practical daily use: by exhausted parents, overwhelmed teachers, or angry citizens.

Alongside this sonic research, a physical investigation revealed uncanny similarities between the body movements involved in screaming and certain ritual gestures found in world religions. These findings shaped the choreography of the performers, giving the piece a meditative, ritual-like dimension.

Through contrast and tension, the piece opposes the rawness of vocal outbursts with precise choreography and meticulous electronic processing. From the very first scream — a metaphorical birth — the body moves within a ritualized world, slowly transitioning toward repetition, control, and manipulation. A central question arises:Who holds the power — the body or the machine?
