J'ai vu deux lunes
About the work
The form of J’ai vu deux lunes follows the lunar cycle. Each stage corresponds to a movement in which precise notation enters into dialogue with free improvisation, tracing a gradual scale of musical freedom.
Like a small moon, the zarb organises and then disrupts the movements of the other instruments, shifting between rhythmic dance and suspended time.
The piece marks an important stage in my exploration of compositional choice: moving part of the decision-making process away from what can be understood and justified, towards instinct, the body and shared listening.
