Baile de Vida

About the work
Baile de Vida was born from an intimate pulse: the first movements of the child I was expecting. This sensation led me to think of transmission as an energy flowing across generations, bodies and cultures.

The piece draws on the salsa dura of the 1970s, not through quotation, but by transforming its principles of momentum, circulation and dance into contemporary musical writing.

Energy moves continuously between the four soloists, until the group becomes a single sonic organism. The prepared piano also becomes a percussion instrument, while instrumental gesture plays an essential role in shaping the musical form.
